Ceylon Tobacco Company Plc (CTC) in a statement yesterday said clarified with regard to various news regarding changes to the cigarette packs including printing pictorial health warnings. “CTC has always respected Parliament as the supreme law making body of the country and as a responsible corporate citizen has always complied with the laws made by the Parliament. Parliamentary approval of the regulations made by the Minister of Health is a procedural requirement under the NATA Act, which had not been done before and now has been done. CTC has challenged the validity of the regulations in the Court of Appeal and the operation of the regulations has been stayed by an interim order made by the Supreme Court on 20 September 2013. Thus, as advised by the company’s lawyers, CTC is not required to change its packs to comply with the Regulations until the Court has determined the validity of the regulations,” CTC said in a statement.
