Cheers for high grown tea as others lag in March

The country’s overall National Sale Averages (NSA) for tea in March declined by Rs. 3.62 per kilo to Rs. Rs. 412.02 from a year earlier though that of high growns improved.

Ceylon Tea Brokers Plc said high growns recorded Rs. 422.62 NSA as against Rs. 404.54 (+Rs. 18.08) in 2015. However the medium growns recorded a NSA of Rs.383.23 reflecting a dip of Rs. 3.03 per kilo. Low Growns’ NSA was down by Rs. 11.26 to Rs. 415.04 per kilo in March.

In the first quarter, the NSA stood at Rs. 409.21 down by Rs. 9.83 per kilo. High growns recorded a NSA of Rs. 419.45 up by Rs. 13.66 per kilo from the first quarter of 2015. Medium growns’ NSA was down by Rs. 5.95 to Rs. 378.98 and low growns figure was down by Rs. 18 to Rs. 412.71 per kilo.

The total CTC average for March was Rs. 388.83 per kilo. CTC high growns recorded Rs. 381.39 and medium growns were at Rs. 376.39 whilst CTC low growns recorded Rs. 400.58.
