Chevron Lubricants President in town on historic visit

Chevron Lubricants President Danny Roden will be in Sri Lanka today on a two-day visit, first of its kind by a head of the global giant’s lubricants operations.

Roden will be accompanied by Chevron Lubricants Asia Pacific Vice President Farrukh Saeed who is also the Chairman of Chevron Lubricants Lanka Plc.

“This is the first time in the history since Caltex’s return to the country with the acquisition of Lanka Lubricants in 1994, a head of Chevron’s lubricants operation is visiting Sri Lanka,” Chevron Lubricants Lanka Plc Managing Director and CEO Kishu Gomes said.

“The visit is a momentous one which provides immense inspiration and confidence to a wide range of stakeholders of Chevron Lubricants Lanka,” he added.

During the two day visit the duo will visit all Chevron Lubricant’s operating locations in Sri Lanka including the manufacturing plant, warehouse operation run by Hayley’s Logiwiz, Caltex Regional warehouses, strategic business partners and key channel partners etc.

Roden is based in the Chevron head quarters in San Ramon, USA and travels extensively to provide direction and review business operations around the world. Chevron Lubricants has over the past several years improved its profitability through effective execution of strategy with specific focus on growth markets across the world.

Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC has recorded a bottom line growth of 6% YTD June, 2011 despite the sharp increase in raw material costs in the global market. Bangladesh and Maldives markets come under the direct purview of CLLPLC and have recorded positive volume and revenue growth.

As President of Lubricants since April 2010, Danny Roden is responsible for the manufacturing, blending, sales and marketing of base oils, finished lubricants and coolants to consumer, commercial and industrial customers worldwide.

Prior to his current role, Roden was Vice President of Global Marketing, Americas Region. In that role, he was responsible for Chevron’s fuel marketing operations in Canada, the United States and Latin America, including retail gasoline sales for the Chevron and Texaco brands, commercial and industrial diesel sales, and company operated stores.

After graduating, from England’s Sheffield Polytechnic in 1978 with a degree in Business Studies, Roden joined Elf Oil, Great Britain in 1980. He held positions of increasing responsibility, including Vice President of Marketing, North America and, prior to that, General Manager of Marketing Investor Sales, Marketing Planning and Services Manager, and managing company operated stores in the United States.

In 1987, Roden joined Gulf Oil Great Britain, subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, as the Marketing Planning Manager. He was appointed to Retail Manager in 1990, and extended his responsibilities to Director of Retail and Distributor Sales in 1992. During this period, he led a major revitalisation of the Gulf brand in the United Kingdom. In 1997, he was named President, Chevron Company Operated Stores in the United States, responsible for the operations of more than 700 sites.

In 2001, Roden became President and Chief Operating Officer of the Swifty Serve Corporation, with more than 600 convenience stores throughout the Southeast United States.

In 2002, he returned to Chevron, assuming responsibility for the restructuring efforts in North America Marketing and was then named to the position of General Manager of Marketing Investor Sales, where he was responsible for dealer and jobber sales.
