President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday emphasised the need to empower the country’s children in every possible aspect in order for them to defeat the high competition present in all sectors. The President, while recalling the progress made by Sri Lanka in its economic, cultural and academic sectors, said the country still had a long way to go and had to make maximum use of the new technology available in the modern world. The President made these comments at the EDEX educational exhibition, organised by Royal College at the BMICH yesterday.   A large number of local and foreign higher education institutions have joined the exhibition which has been staged to provide information about the job market. The exhibition also aims to help the country’s children face global competition. The President pointed out that it was the responsibility of schools as well as parents to preparing children for the future. President Sirisena also highlighted the importance of being able to live close to nature while pursuing studies. “The knowledge we have obtained by studying as well as practical knowledge about society is very important to overcome the challenges we face,” the President added. President Sirisena commended the Old Boys’ Association of Royal College for organising the event.
