UK backs deferral of UNHRC report on Sri LankaThe UK Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Hugo Swire said that the British Government remains firmly behind the decision taken by the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to delay publishing of a report on the UN-mandated investigation into Sri Lanka war crimes. The UNHRC Monday approved a request by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein to delay the report only one time until September 2015. The British Minister in a Twitter message said establishing the truth of events in Sri Lanka is a key step towards reconciliation. “UK remains firmly behind publishing. Establishing the truth of events in #SriLanka is a key step towards reconciliation,” Swire tweeted. |
