Chitrangani to be new Foreign Secretary?

By Dharisha Bastians The country’s most senior career diplomat Chitrangani Wagiswara is set to take over the reins as Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Daily FT learns. Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera has reportedly picked Wagiswara to head the bureaucracy at his Ministry. Wagiswara, who entered the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1981, served as Sri Lanka’s head of mission in France and Canada. The new Foreign Secretary currently serves as the Additional Secretary to the Ministry. It was earlier speculated that former Foreign Secretary H.M.G.S. Palihakkara would be recalled to serve at the Ministry. However, it is learnt that the retired diplomat has turned down the position.
