COMBank ATMs set new record by dispensing Rs. 29.8 b in December

The Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) of the Commercial Bank of Ceylon dispensed Rs. 29.8 billion in December 2013, establishing a new record for cash dispensed electronically in a single month. The 585-terminal ATM network, the largest owned by a single bank in Sri Lanka, processed a record 6.4 million transactions during the month at an average of more than 206,000 transactions per day (or 143 per minute), reaffirming the role it plays in the day-to-day lives of millions of Sri Lankans.

On 31 December 2013, the Commercial Bank ATM network processed 299,000 requests for cash and dispensed Rs. 1.4 billion over 24 hours, a record for a single day in December. December 2013 also saw the bank set a new record for cash dispensed over a weekend, with Rs. 2 billion being withdrawn from its ATM network on the December 14-15 weekend. In 12 days in December, the bank’s ATM network dispensed more than a billion rupees each day, also a record. “What these statistics illustrate is the robustness and reliability of our ATM network, and the bank’s ability to keep them replenished even at times of peak withdrawals,” Commercial Bank’s Chief Operating Officer Jegan Durairatnam said. “Investing in technology and automation has always been a priority at Commercial Bank, and it is clear that these investments are making life easier for millions of Sri Lankans.” Holders of Commercial Bank’s standard ATM cum Shopping Debit Cards can withdraw up to Rs. 40,000 from the bank’s ATMs per withdrawal. The bank also offers customers the option of setting their own ATM withdrawal limits up to a maximum of Rs. 100,000 a day, and a point-of-sale limit of up to Rs. 500,000. The largest private bank in Sri Lanka and the only Sri Lankan Bank to be listed three years consecutively in the world’s Top 1,000 Banks, Commercial Bank operates a network of 235 branches in Sri Lanka. The bank has been adjudged the Best Bank in Sri Lanka by Global Finance magazine for a record 15 successive years and has also won multiple awards as the country’s best bank from ‘The Banker,’ ‘FinanceAsia,’ ‘Euromoney’ and ‘Trade Finance’ magazines.
