The 18th Commemoration Ceremony in memory of those who lost their lives on 31 January 1996 in the LTTE suicide bomb blast at the Central Bank was held yesterday. The ceremony honoured 41 colleagues and the 50 other persons who lost their lives, as a result of the attack. Central Bank Governor Nivard Cabraal chaired the ceremony held near the monument “Arising”, erected in loving memory of those who gave us the strength to rise from the ashes. He also spoke with loved ones of deceased central bankers. On the sidelines of the main ceremony, a group of outsiders staged a picketing campaign denouncing LTTE atrocities as well as continued support by certain countries and international organisations to separatist claims – Pix by Daminda Harsha Perera
