COPE to summon Mahendran on 7 July

The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has decided to summon outgoing Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran on 7 June, after studying a report by the Auditor General on the alleged treasury bond fiasco yesterday.

COPE met in Parliament at 2PM yesterday to study the report of the Auditor General’s investigation into the controversial Treasury Bond issues of 2015 and 2016 that the Committee had commissioned. The Auditor General was also present at the meeting and made submissions before the Committee.

COPE, which is chaired by JVP MP Sunil Handunetti decided to meet again on the Central Bank issue on 7 July, when the current Governor will also be summoned for questioning by the committee based on the AG report, sources said.

The Auditor General’s report on the Treasury Bond issue has been handed over to COPE and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
