The Court of Appeal yesterday issued an interim order till 27 April suspending the ban on full-face helmets.
This was following two consumer protection groups filing separate petitions saying the ban on full-face helmets was a violation of consumer rights. The ban came into effect from yesterday with Police enforcing it strictly.
The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission too filed a petition against the ban on full-face helmets.
The ban was mooted in an attempt to curb crime. The police had said that full-face helmets had been used in recent times by criminals when robbing several banks and other financial institutions. Men with full-face helmets have also been involved in other crimes, including murders.
