Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) said yesterday that there was nothing shady in the awarding of the latest tender for the supply of 35,000 tons of fuel oil.
Responding to the Daily FT article of yesterday, CPC Acting Chairman Amarasekara said the preferred bidder Horizon wasn’t a black listed supplier and the awarding of the contract had been after clearing it with the US Embassy.
“The US Embassy said that it could not determine the source of refined products and requested us to proceed if we were satisfied with the credentials of the supplier. Horizon submitted the most competitive bid as well,” Amarasekara added.
The Daily FT reported that CPC contracted Horizon for the supply of 35,000 tons of low sulphur fuel oil when US-led Western sanctions continue against supplies from Iran.
