Reuters:- Sri Lankan stocks hit a more-than-five-week closing high on Monday as investors bought blue-chips like Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC and conglomerate John Keells Holding PLC, brokers said.
The main share index rose 0.5%, or 29.15 points, to close at 5,867.10, its highest since Aug. 27.
Shares in market heavyweight Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC rose 1.99% to 1,075.50 rupees, its highest close since Sept. 27, in thin trade, while conglomerate John Keells gained 1.15% to a five-week closing high of 219.00 rupees.
Foreign investors were net buyers of 227.8 million rupees ($1.73 million) worth of shares on Monday, extending the net buying so far this year to 20.69 billion rupees.
The day’s turnover was 483.7 million rupees, well below this year’s daily average of about 875 million rupees.
