The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC), in association with Bloomberg Data services, will host their next Investor Forum in Singapore on 21 January at the Ritz Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The forum hopes to reach out to foreign institutional and high net worth investors based in the Southeast Asian region. Over 250 institutional investors, investment banks, financial advisors and listed companies have registered to attend the forum and have one-on-one meetings with listed Sri Lankan companies. Sri Lankan listed companies registered to participate at the event are John Keells Holdings PLC, National Development Bank PLC, DFCC Bank, Carson Cumberbatch PLC, Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka PLC, Dialog Axiata PLC, Ceylinco Insurance PLC, Hayleys PLC, Access Engineering PLC, People’s Leasing & Finance PLC, Hemas Holdings PLC, Softlogic Holdings PLC and Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) PLC. Senior Minister for International Monetary Cooperation and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Sarath Amunugama and Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal will make principal presentations. Furthermore a presentation will be conducted by Amba Research Lanka on the opportunities in the capital market. In addition to these presentations a panel discussion will be held with Dr. Amunugama, Cabraal, Chairman of the SEC Dr. Nalaka Godahewa and Chairman of the CSE Krishan Balendra. Following the preliminary sessions, investors will have the opportunity to have one-on-one meetings with listed Sri Lankan companies. Additionally a separate session will be held featuring presentations on the opportunities available in the Sri Lankan debt market. “The SEC was able to bring about stability in the stock market and the market has now entered a phase of steady growth. To fulfill our dual mandate of regulating and developing the capital market, the SEC developed a 10 point capital market development road map, which addresses not only the strategic initiatives but also the actual implementation of these initiatives. The confidence of foreign investors on the Sri Lankan stock market can be seen from the record levels of foreign inflow to the market and also from the unprecedented response for this road show,”   Dr. Godahewa said. “Singapore is the ideal location to hold our next investor forum as it is a financial hub where many regional and global institutional investors are based. Through this forum we hope to attract not just Singapore based investors but also investors from the region,” Balendra said. This is the first instance that the CSE in association with the SEC is hosting such a forum in Singapore. The previous forums organised by the CSE were held in 2007 and 2011 while the SEC organised a forum in 2009. These forums attracted a number of Singaporean and regional investors to Sri Lanka and provided substantial exposure to companies listed on the CSE. This is the first investor forum for 2014 and the CSE and the SEC hope to hold investor forums in New York, London and other cities during the course of the year.
