Dhammika appointed Hayleys Deputy Chairman

Business leader and controlling shareholder Dhammika Perera has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of Hayleys Plc.

Dhammika and connected parties own a 31% stake in Hayleys, which is one of the leading diversified blue chips. He was invited to join the Hayleys Board in 2008.

The decision to appoint Dhammika was made by the Board at its meeting on Wednesday. It was also the first Board meeting since Hayleys AGM for 2010/11 financial year. The appointment of Dhammika as Deputy Chairman had been proposed by Chairman and CEO Mohan Pandithage and seconded by Director Nimal Perera, who has been associated with Dhammika from the inception of latter’s entry into the corporate world via the Colombo stock market.

Since the elevation of Mohan Pandithage as Chairman and CEO in July 2009, the post of Deputy Chairman at Hayleys has been vacant.

Dhammika is currently Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and his business interests include hydropower generation, manufacturing, hospitality, entertainment, banking and finance.

At the recently concluded AGM, shareholders approved a resolution to expand Board of Directors by two more seats bringing the total to 14. No new appointments have been announced as yet.

The present Board comprises Mohan Pandithage (Chairman and CEO), Dhammika Perera  (Deputy Chairman), M.R. Zaheed, J.A.G. Anandarajah, Nimal Perera, Sarath Ganegoda, H.S.R. Kariyawasan, Dr. Harsha Cabraal, M. Ranasoma, Lalin Samarawickrama , Ranil Pathirana and M.D.S Goonatilleke.
