The Chinese national who was alleged to have swallowed a diamond worth Rs. 1.8 million was remanded till 17 September by the Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday.
Heighnan Chanly Donjil of Kung Cheng of China was remanded by the Magistrate allegedly for swallowing a diamond worth Rs. 1.8 million that was kept in display in a stall at the Gem and jewellery exhibition at the BMICH on 5 September.
Cinnamon Garden Police filing a “B” report submitted that the suspect who was accompanied by another Chinese had come to the stall to see the gems that were displayed in the exhibition. In the meantime the suspect had taken the diamond and swallowed it.
The owners of the stall seeing him swallowing the diamond had held him by the shirt, while the other person who accompanied the suspect got away.
Thereafter the suspect was handed over to the Police and he is presently warded in hospital for observation to detect the diamond.
The Police moved to remand the suspect who is being kept under observation at the General Hospital and to hand over his physical custody to the Prison authorities
Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuili remanded the suspect in the fiscal custody of the prison.
