DIG Vass Gunewardane’s wife claims gold from Treasury was sold off

Wife of former DIG Vass Gunawardene appeared before the Bribery Commission yesterday to lodge a complaint against the former Government regarding a gold deal which was revealed by her husband.
Speaking to the media after lodging the complaint, she said the racket where gold belonging to the Treasury had been sold was initially revealed during the time when DIG Vass Gunawardene was still in charge of Colombo North.
She added that Army Intelligence had made the revelation.
With her husband facing murder charges in the Colombo High Court, Vaas Gunewardane’s wife alleged that DIG Anura Senanayake, who was transferred back to Police Headquarters on Sunday, had attempted to apply pressure to stop the probe.
The investigation had resulted in the imprisonment of her husband and son, she said.
