Dimo has been releasing an average of 1,000 vehicles per month this year, its CEO and Chairman Ranjith Pandithage said.
Noting that the numbers had increased considerably from last year, a difficult year for most corporate, Pandithage said that the pickup of numbers seen from the third and fourth quarter last year had steadily flowed into 2010. Pandithage stated that when it came to Mercedes Benz, for which Dimo is known as the official agent in Sri Lanka, he hoped to sell 300-400 units during the year.
“Sri Lanka, which has a population of 20 million persons, is aiming at selling 300-400 units whereas Singapore, with a population of four million persons, manages to sell 4,000 Mercedes per year,” he said.
Answering a question posed by the audience, Pandithage was quick to assure that the north and east markets had shown great momentum for the vehicle business. Owing to the increasing demand, Dimo has even started a branch in the peninsula.
“Jaffna is traditionally a quality conscious market even from the early days. Therefore, the demand for what we have to offer is great,” he said.
Dimo has also started a training centre for youth there who have interests in joining the company.
“We have even ventured into training youth from Jaffna to look after our products and offer the maximum service to our growing customer base there.”
