Dinesh new Deputy Chairman of Commercial Bank

Top professional Dinesh Weerakkody has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Commercial Bank, the country’s biggest private sector bank.

The appointment was by the Board at its meeting on Friday. Dinesh replaces B.R.L. Fernando, who stepped down ahead of his retirement from the Board later this year.

Fernando will continue to serve as a Director until then. Fernando, Chairman of CIC Holdings, was first appointed to the Commercial Bank in January 1995 and appointed Deputy Chairman in April 2006.

Dinesh was first appointed to the Commercial Bank Board on 29 July, 2005 and serves the Board’s Audit Committee and the HR and Remuneration Committee. Previously he served on the DFCC Bank Board for eight years.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Leicester, England and is a Graduate in Business Administration. He is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK and a Fellow of the Certified Management Accountants, Sri Lanka. He is an Honorary Member of the Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka, a member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors and a Professional Member of the Singapore Human Resource Institute.

Dinesh is the Managing Director of Cornucopia Lanka Ltd., Director/Advisor of HR Cornucopia India, and GlaxoSmithKline Sri Lanka. He is a Vice President of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association.

Previously he was the Chairman and CEO of the Employees’ Trust Fund Board, and the Advisor to the Prime Minister from January 2003 to April 2004.

Dinesh has received extensive training in leadership, international relations, change management and human resource management in Singapore, UK, Japan, India, France and USA.
