The current Chairman of Commercial Bank of Ceylon, Dinesh Weerakkody, will retire on 28 July after completing nine years with the bank, in line with Central Bank directives.
Weerakkody joined Commercial Bank of Ceylon as a DFCC Bank nominee in July 2005 and became an Independent Director in 2010, when DFCC Bank reduced its shareholding to below 15% to be compliant with the new banking regulations.
He was appointed Deputy Chairman of the bank in August 2011 and Chairman of the Bank on 30 December 2011.
Weerakkody was the 7th Chairman of the bank and its youngest. He served as the Chairman of the Board Audit Committee, a nomination committee and Remuneration Committee of the Bank.
Commercial Bank is the only Sri Lankan bank to be listed in the Global top 1,000 Banks continuously for four years and the only private sector bank to cross a PAT of Rs. 10 billion in 2012 and 2013 and in 2013 became the 2nd most profitable bank in the country. Weerakkody was also a Director of DFCC Bank.
