According MTI Consulting’s Intelligence Hub, Kenya is looking to set up a Tea Hub in the country and this could well pose a threat in the longer term.

“Our associates in Kenya have informed us of a tender by the Tea Board of Kenya to carry out a study of the value-addition feasibility in Kenya and this obviously shows that they intend to set up a tea hub” says Hilmy Cader, CEO of MTI Consulting.

He further goes on to say that “Although we do not intend to pitch for this consulting tender, it clearly shows their strategic intent. Our assessment is that in the short term, Kenya’s biggest challenge will be logistics, however the tea industry in Kenya has demonstrated resilience and unwavering commitment in building a globally competitive business in a relatively short time. So do not ‘discount’ them. The current economic crisis in the USA and Europe will also drive customers to look for better value and Kenya stands to benefit from this”
