Polls Chief Mahinda Deshapriya has warned that any attempt to intimidate or chase away voters or threaten polling officials will result in the cancellation of ballots in the affected polling booth.
Addressing a press briefing yesterday, the Polls Chief said that he would recall elections if there were any incidents at polling booths on Election Day.
Deshapriya said his department had made arrangements to assist voters affected by the recent floods.
The Commissioner said that special polling booths would be set up to facilitate displaced voters or voters affected by the inclement weather conditions.
Displacement camps would be allocated special polling booths, if people are still unable to go to their homes by 8 January.
He added that the department would distribute polling cards on 4 January, to areas where bad weather conditions prevented earlier distribution. (DB)
