UNP MP Dr. Harsha de Silva in a statement said yesterday that, notwithstanding the propaganda blitzkrieg spending millions of public money to run full page colour advertisements in numerous newspapers to mislead the public that Financial Statements of the Employees; Provident Fund (EPF) had already been published for 2011, 2012 and 2013, it was only last afternoon that the EPF finally submitted to Parliament the Annual Report and Financial Statements for year 2011.
“We repeat with absolute responsibility that the accounts, be it audited or unaudited, for 2012 and 2013 have neither been published nor submitted to Parliament as per the legal requirement to do so at the earliest,” he added.
“Now that these accounts have been presented, we will be summoning the EPF to the Public Accounts Committee at our convenience to initiate necessary action to begin investigations on what clearly appears to be massive fraud in some of its transactions in the Colombo Stock Exchange,” Dr. de Silva alleged.
“In the meantime we demand that the financial statements for the years 2012 and 2013 be published and presented to Parliament immediately,” the UNP MP said.
