Want to topple Govt.? No need Harvard, come to Medamulana: Mahinda In an apparent broadside to UNP which has vowed to topple the Government President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday quipped those interested need not go to Harvard but can come to him for advice. The President’s witty response came with news that UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is off to lecture and study at MIT as well as Harvard in the US, fresh from the Western and Southern provincial polls campaign in which the Opposition vowed to dethrone the Rajapaksa regime. During his address at the ceremonial launch of the Central Bank’s 2013 Annual Report which showcased rapid socio-economic progress, President Rajapaksa said the Opposition and other critics have been claiming Arab springs and how the Government will collapse. “I have heard about the collapse of the Government for several years but we still remain very strong. Some have urged people to take to streets to topple this Government. This is nothing new. I am someone who has come to Presidency from the streets. Yes people must topple bad governments but we will not let toppling of a strong and good government by force or through devious means,” the President said. “People need not go to Harvard or overseas to learn about toppling the Government. Come to Medamulana and I will teach you,” said the President in direct reference to Opposition Leader Wickremesinghe amidst laughter in the audience comprising top bankers and private sector representatives. The President also said that for rapid socio-economic progress political stability was key and Sri Lanka was blessed with the same.
