The Government yesterday increased the duty on alcohol by Rs. 75 per litre (about Rs. 25-30 per bottle) and beer by Rs. 10 a litre whilst price of cigarettes by Rs. 2 and 3 per stick.
Finance Ministry said the move was as per the periodical tax revisions, which are made annually to ensure the generation of estimated revenue from these items.
