Minister of Fisheries Joseph Michael Perera has appointed a six- member committee to look into issues plaguing the fishing industry, including the use of banned fishing methods.
Accordingly, issues pertaining to the fishing industry will be looked into between 23 March and 22 April in 14 districts.
“A number of issues have cropped up with regard to the fishing industry, in Sri Lankan waters and beyond, especially with regard to fishing methods. A special committee has been appointed to inquire about the issues plaguing the fishing industry.
The issues that need to be addressed by this committee have to be sent to the office of the Department of Fisheries. Thereafter, the officials of the department will visit the locations, investigate issues and provide a solution,” Perera stated.
