Chamber of Young Lankan Entrepreneurs (COYLE) is urging all households and businesses to hoist the Sri Lanka flag as patriotic support in the face of sinister moves by some global powers aided by Tamil Disapora to discredit and destabilise the country.

In a statement the COYLE said it denounces this attempt by the USA and the Tamil Diaspora due to several reasons.

It listed them as:

During the 30 years of war the above international forces did not come forward to resolve our problem or to liberate the Sri Lankan Tamil community from the clutches of the LTTE

Sri Lankans have made heavy scarifies for over 30 years and now shall be allowed to enjoy the peace that they have won by defeating the ruthless terrorists

We strongly believe that this resolution has an ulterior motive of  bringing in a regime change in Sri Lanka and destabilise the country once again

In the recent past all the countries such as Iraq, Egypt and Libya have ended up in total chaos and innocent civilians are killed in large numbers every month

Whatever the attempts by USA and Tamil Diaspora to destabilise smooth running of the country will affect normal civilian life in Sri Lanka and also negatively affect all business concerns

We are surprised and disappointed that India has not yet come forward to help Sri Lanka and we invite Indian Government to come forward to help their small neighbour at the hour of their need

“We request all Sri Lankans and Sri Lankan business establishments to leave all differences aside hoist Sri Lankan National Flag and show their solidarity to the Sri Lankan Government to defeat this unethical and unjust resolution at the UNHRC,” COYLE urged.

“We have already issued a letter to the Indian Prime Minister and an open letter to all the Diplomats in Sri Lanka to support Sri Lanka to defeat this unfair and unjust resolution at the UNHRC,” it added.

COYLE is one of the most vibrant business chambers in the country with over a hundred members, mainly comprised of some of Sri Lanka’s leading business enterprises. COYLE members collectively employ over 250,000 people and an annual business turnover of over Rs. 300 billion. “We leave all political differences aside, and come forward to always  safeguard the interests of our country,” it said.

According to COYLE, Sri Lanka, with its current total population of 20 million, comprises of approximately 15 million Sinhalese, three million Tamils, and two million of others including Muslims. These races had lived in harmony for over thousand years till the British arrived and made it a colony in 1815. Based on the principle of ‘divide and rule’ the British created a racial division between the Sinhalese and Tamils in Lanka, which was called Ceylon in their time of rule.

Funded by some of the Tamil diaspora in the world few Tamils groups in the north of Sri Lanka under the name LTTE fought a bloody war for almost 30 years since 1980 till the Sri Lankan Government defeated LTTE on the 19th of May, 2009.

Since the defeat of LTTE all the people including Tamils, live peacefully in Sri Lanka. This is well evident by the fact that about 40% of the population of city of Colombo comprise of Tamils.

“The peace in Post War Sri Lanka has not favoured some leading members of the Tamil Diaspora, and they have with the help of few Members of Parliaments in the Western countries made false human right violation charges against Sri Lanka. The recent UNHRC motion by the USA is the last attempt by this group against Sri Lanka,” COYLE added.
