The main opposition United National Party will hold its 67th anniversary today under the ambitious theme ‘Victory is Near’.
The anniversary celebrations will take place at the party’s Sirikotha Headquarters. This year’s celebration will be organised by the UNP’s youth and student wings, with many participants being drawn from the party’s youth representatives.
The UNP was established in 1946 and formed the first post-independence Government in Sri Lanka following the end of British rule.
UNP MP Harin Fernando who addressed a press conference on Tuesday said young people would be given prominence at today’s anniversary celebrations.
UNP Youth Front Chairman MP Ruwan Wijewardene has called on young people to raise their voices against State terrorism and vowed their grievances would be addressed by a future government of the UNP.
