Former AG joins Aitken Spence Board

Former Attorney General and Solicitor General as well as the Chairman of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission C.R. De Silva will be joining the Board of Directors of top blue chip Aitken Spence Plc from Monday.



He currently serves on the Board of Cargills Agricultural and Commercial Bank Ltd.

De Silva served as the Attorney General from 2007 until retirement in 2009. He has been a member of the official delegations from Sri Lanka to the Afro Asian Legal Consultative Committee held in Islamabad, UN Human Rights Council, UN Human Committee, UN Convention Against Torture Committee, UN Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and the UN Human Rights Council sessions in Geneva.



De Silva was a lecturer and examiner at the Defence University and an examiner at the Sri Lanka College. He was a member of the Law Commission of Sri Lanka, the National Child Protection Authority, Drug Control Board and the Council of Legal Education. Further he was a consultant to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

After completing his education at Royal College, Colombo, he entered the Sri Lanka Law College and was called to the Bar in 1974. A year later he joined the AG’s Department as a State Counsel and was appointed as a Senior State Counsel in 1983 and Deputy Solicitor General in 1996. He was called to the Inner Bar as a President’s Counsel in 1997, in which year he was appointed as an Additional Solicitor General and in 1997 as the Solicitor General.

With the latest appointment, the Board of Directors of Aitken Spence Plc comprises Harry Jayawardena (Chairman), Rajan Brito (Deputy Chairman and Managing Director), R.M. Fernando (Executive Director), G.C. Wickremasinghe (Non Executive Director), C.H. Gomez (Non Executive Director), N.J.D.S.D. Aditya (Non Executive Director), V.M. Fernando (Non Executive Independent Director), M.P. Dissanayake (Executive Director), R.N. Asirwatham (Non Executive Independent Director), C.R. De Silva and A.L. Gooneratne (Alternate to N.J. De S. Deva Aditya).
