Geneva focus because of “development lamentations”

Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was in a verbal mood yesterday when he slammed Government critics for highlighting the upcoming UNHRC sessions as being detrimental to Sri Lanka.
Responding to questions during the weekly cabinet briefing the Minister noted that the Government was preparing, “expecting the worst” in the March sessions in Geneva but refused to divulge details of specific steps taken by the Government.
Responding to Opposition politicians who have accused the Government for mishandling the situation, he stressed that it was the Rajapaksa regime that ended the war and implemented massive development reforms.
“If the war had not been won there would have been no Geneva. Road construction, airports, highways… none of these things would be criticised if they had not been built. People say the Norochcholai power plant broke down but that was because we built it. We did not stand around as previous Governments did and do nothing for the people. We have proved ourselves enough and more times,” he said.
Rambukwella went onto say that these were development lamentations spurred mostly by ineffective politicians. (UJ)
