An unprecedented panel of global experts will share key insights into how organisations can secure themselves from rising attacks on computers and IT systems next week at a full-day Summit organised by the Daily FT-CICRA.
Globally businesses and non-commercial org-anisations are becoming increasingly vulnerable to cyber crime. Last year alone, the cost of cyber crime rose to a staggering $ 450 billion.
In Sri Lanka too cyber attacks and incidents of attempts are on the up too though not many organisations make formal disclosures.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jingping during the visit to Beijing in May this year said: “With the spread of cybercrime causing unrest in countries, Sri Lanka wishes to take precautions against such acts.”
In a bid to share key insights into new technology as well as current and future trends of cyber crime, the 2014 Cyber Security Summit will be held on 5 August from 9:15 a.m. at the Cinnamon Lakeside.
The Daily FT is co-organising the Summit in partnership with CICRA Consultancies Ltd., Sri Lanka’s pioneering cyber security training and consultancy provider in association with the International Council of Electronic Commerce Consultants (EC-Council), of the USA which is the world’s largest vendor neutral cyber security education provider. CISCO and Microsoft are strategic partners. Given the national importance the 2014 Summit is supported by the ICT Agency and the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology as well.
The expert panel speaking includes the Summit’s technical partner Infowatch Group CEO Natalya Kaspersky from Russia, who was also the co-founder of the world-famous anti-virus software brand Kaspersky, EC Council USA Founder President Jay Bavisi, CISCO Customer Solutions Architect Joshua McCloud, Cisco Systems Technical Leader Srikanta Prasad, Microsoft Asia Pacific and Japan Regional Director Intellectual property Keshav S. Dhakad, cyber security specialist Akati Consulting Malaysia CEO Krishna Rajagopal.
They will deal with a wide range of topics and issues including network security, cloud computing, big data, ethical hacking and digital forensics. For example Microsoft will share expertise on ‘Fighting Cybercrime and Leveraging Cyber-Threat Intelligence to keep the Internet Safer’ whilst CISCO will deal with ‘Software Defined Networking for Security – Next Generation Threat Visibility and Control Category’.
The 2014 Summit is arising from the successful first-ever event held last year. The main objective of the Summit is to create awareness on the importance of cyber security and to provide top officers in the Government, top private sector leaders, IT professionals with the best practices in acquiring, implementing, managing and measuring information security postures of their organisations and countermeasures.
The Summit will also highlight latest flaws in information security that affects the global community including corporations and governments. Discussions and presentations will revolve around some of the most malicious attacks and potential threats surrounding the security field.
