Godahewa steps down, Deheragoda new Chairman at Colombo Land

Prof. Krishan Deheragoda was appointed the Chairman of Colombo Land and Development Company Plc on Friday after the incumbent Dr. Nalaka Godahewa stepped down. Previously, Deheragoda was the Deputy Chairman and Executive Director, and he also held the Chairmanship some time back. Daily FT learns Dr. Godahewa had informed the Board he would step down to focus more on his role as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Largest shareholder of Colombo Land is a consortium of Singapore parties and individuals with around 30% stake followed by Kalpitiya Beach Resort (20%) and UDA (17.5%). Godahewa also holds 1% stake in the company. Deheragoda serves as a Professor of Geography at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and has previously been the Chairman of Colombo Land from 1999-2001 as well as Vice Chairman from 2006-2010. Prof. Deheragoda has held the chairmanship in number of public and corporate sectors including the Urban Development Authority (2000-2002), Ceylon Shipping Corporation, Sustainable Energy Authority, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (Vice Chairman), Onali Holdings Ltd., Ocean View Development Ltd., Peliyagoda Warehouse Complex Ltd., Real Estate Exchange Ltd. etc. He has served as an advisor to several ministries, including Urban Development and Housing, Transport, and Ports and Shipping.  Prof. Deheragoda was a member of over 30 governing and advisory boards in addition to holding key positions in academia. He has a PhD in Recreational Geography (Bulgaria), MSc in Natural Resource Management (Sofia) and post graduate diplomas in Urban and Regional Development Planning (Nagoya), Resource Survey and Mapping (Colombo), and is currently the President of Sri Lanka Association of Geographers. The Colombo Land Board of Directors comprises Krishan Deheragoda (Chairman), N.Y. Tong, N.Y. Xing, D.S. Jayaweera, M.U.M.A. Sabry, M.D.S. Goonatilake and W.K.J. Karannagoda.
