Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has held top level discussions with United Nations officials in New York during a visit to the United States.
The Defence Secretary, who is a US citizen, met with UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Elisson in New York on Monday (16).
The UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, denied requests to provide a briefing of the Defence Secretary’s meeting with Elisson, New York based Innercity Press reported.
The Defence Secretary also travelled to New Delhi last month, for a ‘private visit’, on the sidelines of which he held talks with Indian National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon and Indian External Affairs Minister, Salman Khurshid.
The Government has kept both visits under wraps. (DB)
