Govt. appoints new envoys to US, India and Germany

The Government has made new diplomatic appointments to India, Unite States and Germany, the External Affairs Ministry has said.
Current High Commissioner in New Delhi Prasad Kariyawasam has been appointed as the new Ambassador to the US replacing the incumbent Jaliya Wickramasuriya.
Kariyawasam, a career diplomat, served as an envoy to Washington from 1995-1998 and as the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York.
Prof. Sudarshan Seneviratne, an academic, will replace Kariyawasam in New Delhi as a political appointee to the Foreign Service.
Prof. Seneviratne, an archeologist, headed the Department of Archaeology at the University of Peradeniya for nearly 10 years and was the head of the Central Cultural Fund.
The appointments will be subject to approval by the Parliament.
Meanwhile, former Secretary to the External Affairs Ministry, Karunaratna Amunugama has been appointed as the new Ambassador to Germany.
