Govt. declares Tax Week in November

The Government has declared a Tax Week annually in the month of November to achieve multiple objectives.



The move follows the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday approving a proposal by President and Finance Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

For 2012, the Tax Week has been declared from 1 to 8 November, with the latter date coinciding with the presentation of 2013 Budget in Parliament.

The Tax Week has been mooted to create awareness among the public in respect of the Government Tax System.

 Its main objectives are increase the awareness of the tax system among the public; building public confidence in tax administration and related activities of the Departments of Inland Revenue and Sri Lanka Customs, whereby voluntary compliance with the taxes by the public could be encouraged; enlighten the public of the contribution they could render towards future prosperity of the country through timely payment of taxes; and make the public aware of the tax reliefs and tax holidays granted by the new tax system which has been implemented since 2011.
