Representatives of all political parties in the Gampaha District have joined to give a permanent solution to the acute water problem facing the people of Rathupaswala, Minister for Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa said.
He said short and long term solutions were found today (2) with immediate effect to end the crisis which affected 12 villages near Weliweriya, Gampaha.
In this connection, Minister Rajapaksa convened a meeting of all political parties represented in the district at the Gampaha Government Agent’s Office this afternoon. The participants included UPFA, UNP, Frontline Socialist Party representatives, Gampaha GA, senior Government officials and officials of the Environment, Health, Water Resources and Investment Promotion Ministries.
Following the decision reached at the meeting 10 tractor trailers and more six bowsers have been deployed to provide 300 water tanks to the 12 villages, in addition to the bowsers already providing water to the people.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa also gave instructions to the relevant authorities to implement without delay the plan for providing the people of Rathupaswala with pipe-borne water as a permanent solution to the problem. He also stressed the need for protecting the environment and raising the people’s living standards parallel to these measures.
Gampaha GA J.A. Rathnasiri, Western Province Chef Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, UNP Parliamentarians Ruwan Wijewardene and Ajith Mannapperuma, Frontline Socialist Party Member and Western Provincial Councillor Waruna Rajapaksa, Western Provincial Council Chairman Sunil Wijeratne and Provincial Councillor Dilip Rajapaksa and Pradeshiya Sabha Chairmen of Mahara and Gampaha were among those who attended the meeting.
