Hambantota comes to Colombo!

  • Top forum tomorrow to highlight range of investment and business opportunities
  To better highlight the wide range of new opportunities in the deep south, the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce will hold an important forum tomorrow in Colombo targeting businesses and investors based in the commercial capital. The half day forum titled ‘Invest in Hambantota – 2014’ will be held from 9.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the auditorium of the Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka building at Malalasekara Mawatha, Colombo 7. CA Sri Lanka and the Daily FT are supporting this important initiative. Through a series of short presentations, several experts will highlight the range of new opportunities available in Hambantota in sectors such as ports and shipping, aviation, tourism, urban development as well as the business climate apart from showcasing some of the successful enterprises and investments in the region. There will be a question and answer session and a panel discussion as well. Central Bank Deputy Governor Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe will deliver the keynote address while HDCC Consultant Azmi Thassim will speak on the business and investment climate at the forum. Urban Development Chairman Nimal Perera will make a presentation on the mega development plan for the Hambantota District and the latest progress and business opportunities in the aviation sector will be highlighted by Mattala International Airport CEO Derick Karunarathne and a presentation on Hambantota Port and associated opportunities will be made by SLPA Southern Port Development Director P. A. Agil Hewageegana. Lanka Fishing Flies Ltd. CEO Suresh De Mel and Micro Holdings Ltd., Chairman/CEO Dr. Lawrence Perera will showcase their success stories of investing in Hambantota. The panel discussion will include the speakers as well as Ministry of Economic Development Additional Secretary Priyantha Mayadunne, Board of Investment Senior Deputy Director Investment Ranjan Sibera and Sri Lanka Tourism Planning and Development Director P. Upali Ratnayake.
