UNP MP and party’s Chief Spokesman on the economy Dr. Harsha de Silva yesterday sent the following statement in reference to Daily FT’s article titled “Basil blasts Harsha over China ‘Hit Man’ Charge” published yesterday.

“I completely reject the vicious allegation by Minister Basil Rajapaksa that my recent comments on China are in anyway dangerous and detrimental to the national interests of Sri Lanka.

I have stated facts and can at any forum defend what I have stated. I reiterate that as per the Fiscal Management Report submitted to Parliament under the seal of President Mahinda Rajapaksa on 21 November 2011 in his capacity of Minister of Finance that China has neither agreed to provide nor have disbursed a single dollar as grants during the period January to September 2011. It is unfortunate that the Minister is unable to digest the truth and instead attacking the messenger in order to divert the attention of the public from activity that is clearly dangerous and detrimental to the national interest of Sri Lanka.”
