With reference to yesterday’s Daily FT article titled ‘Not politics but poor demand led to cancellation of Harsha’s talk,’ UNP MP Dr. Harsha de Silva sent the following statement:
It is with regret that I read a statement issued by one Daya Ratnayake of the Sri Lanka-Italy Business Council saying the event I was billed to speak at yesterday was cancelled due to poor demand.
It is certainly a disgrace to the entire business community when not only such so-called businessmen are pretending to be independent but are directly working to undermine democracy in Sri Lanka.
I am thankful to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce for clarifying its position that they were in no way involved in organising the said event and that only their secretarial services were used to inform me of the cancellation and that in the future the Sri Lanka-Italy Business Council would no longer be welcome to use their services for such activity.
I expect you to provide the same prominence to this right of reply.
Harsha de Silva.
