UNP National List Legislator and Economic Affairs Spokesman Harsha De Silva has warned of reports about his impending arrest on the grounds that he was inciting public unrest.
In a statement released to the media yesterday De Silva pointed to website reports that said orders from the Defence Secretary for his arrest had been handed over to the head of the state intelligence services DIG Chandra Nimal Wakishta.
De Silva said the attempt to arrest him was connected to his revelations about China Communications Constructions Company, a firm blacklisted by the World Bank that the Government had contracted to build the Colombo Port City Project.
Demanding that the Government explain the reports about his arrest, De Silva said there was no credibility to the charge that the public would be incited to unrest by his exposes about the company. “I do not believe that a democratic government would resort to taking such extra-legal action,” De Silva noted.
He also said the Government must comment on the specific web reports.
