Hemaka retires from Singer after 36-year illustrious career

Business leader Hemaka Amarasuriya will be retiring from Singer (Sri Lanka) Plc from 31 March 2015 after a long and illustrious career spanning 36 years in the local entity of the multinational. Amarasuriya has been Non-Executive Chairman since 1 July 2010. After joining the Singer Sri Lanka Board in April 1979, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director in August 1983 and Country Manager of Singer Singapore in 2004, Managing Director of the Sri Lankan entity in January 1985 and as Chairman in November 1986. The multi-qualified Amarasuriya was also a former Vice President of Retail Holdings, USA and Singer Asia Ltd. His role in the marketing field was recognised through his appointment as the Founder President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (Sri Lanka Region) and by the Asia Retail Congress with the Retail Leadership Award for his contribution to retailing in Asia and by the CIM UK as a Visionary Business Leader and for his invaluable contribution to the marketing profession in initiating revolutionary changes in the consumer market. Amarasuriya is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK and CIM UK. He has a Diploma in Marketing Management and Strategy from New York University USA. He is the Founder President of the Industrial Association of Sri Lanka. Apart from being a former Chairman of the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon, he served on the Presidential Task Force on Science and Technology and on the Securities and Exchange Commission and Advisory Committee on Company Law at different times. He was a former Chairman of NDB Plc.  

Dr. Saman Kelegama new Singer SL Chairman

    Singer (Sri Lanka) Plc has announced the appointment of existing Director Dr. Saman Kelegama as the new Non-Executive Chairman with effect from 1 April 2015. He will also be the Chairman of subsidiaries Regnis (Lanka) Plc and Singer Industries (Ceylon) Plc. He was already Chairman of Singer Finance Plc. Dr. Kelegama is the Executive Director of the Institute of Policy Studies, a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences in Sri Lanka and former President and Honorary Fellow of the Sri Lanka Economic Association and has authored several publications on the economy of Sri Lanka. He also serves on the Boards of SC Securities, Industrial Development Board and National Enterprise Development Authority and the Postgraduate Institute of Management.
