High profile Lankan delegation to woo Japanese trade, investment and tourism

A 25-member high-profiled business delegation led by Daya Weththasinghe, President of the Sri Lanka-Japan Business Co-operation Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will be visiting Japan on 8 June to promote trade, investment and tourism. The mission is organised to coincide with the 18th Joint Committee Meeting of the Sri Lanka-Japan and Japan-Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committees, scheduled to be held in Tokyo on 10 June. The 18th Joint Committee will be followed by B2B meetings organised jointly by the Japan/Tokyo Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan and the Japan External Trade Organisation. 130 leading Japanese businessmen have already registered with the Japan Chamber of Commerce to attend the event in Tokyo. Deputy Minister of Investment Promotion Faiszer Musthapha and Ministry of Finance and Planning Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera will address the Japanese business community on 10 June in Tokyo. Thereafter, the delegation will be visiting Osaka to attend the Sri Lanka-Japan Business Forum organised by the Consul General for Sri Lanka in Osaka, D.W. Aluthgamage. Senior Minister for International Monetary Co-operation Senior Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama will be delivering the Keynote Address in Osaka, where 75 Japanese businessmen have already registered to attend the event. The local delegation will consists of leading companies in Sri Lanka promoting rubber-based product industries, garments, automobiles, ceramics, gems and jewellery, electronic products, tea, IT, travel, medical devices, finance and fisheries, etc. Among the firms which will take part in the mission are Amano Group of Companies, AMW Capital Leasing and Finance PLC, Andrew the Travel Company, ASOL Traders, Associated Motorways, Ceyline Holdings Ltd., Ceyline Holdings, Dior Properties and Investment, E-W Information Systems, Global Group of Companies, Greenfield Bio Plantations, Hayleys Advantis, Hayleys Industrial Solutions, hSenid Software, Microcells Ltd., Midaya Ceramic Company, NWS Management Services, Osman’s, Samson International, Silver Line Tours, TJ Associates, TOS Lanka, Venora International Projects. The Sri Lanka-Japan Business Co-operation Committee (SLJBCC) was set up in 1979 by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce following a Memorandum of Understanding with the Japan-Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committee (JSLBCC) setup by the Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) to promote trade in goods, tourism and other services between Sri Lanka and Japan to promote investment from Japan to Sri Lanka and encourage the establishment of joint ventures in Sri Lanka with investors from Japan. Since then, 17 joint meetings have been held in Sri Lanka and Japan, the most recent in Colombo, Sri Lanka in December 2012. The SLJBCC is the first bilateral business council to be set up by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and its membership to date is 91.
