Olivier de Grivel, Vice Chairman and Head of Financial Institutions Group, Asia Pacific HSBC and member of the Executive Committee of Global Banking and Markets in Asia will be in Sri Lanka today.
During his visit to the country, Olivier will address the sixth consecutive Bank Directors’ Symposium today, 11 December.
The Bank Directors’ Symposium is held annually with a view to updating and sharing the new developments in the economy, including the regulatory environment, in order to strengthen the banks’ resilience to meet upcoming challenges and in exploring new opportunities. The symposium is attended by over 200 directors and chief executive officers of licensed banks.
Olivier started his career by joining J.P. Morgan in Paris as a research analyst. In 1986, he was transferred to New York in charge of the Corporate and Investment Banking business with the European multinationals based in the US.
In 1990, he joined the London M&A team to start the Advisory Group dedicated to European Financial Institutions. As head of the execution team, he transacted a number of the largest M&A and Equity transactions, which J.P. Morgan executed in the sector. In 1998, Olivier took additional coverage responsibility as the senior banker of major institutional clients across Europe.
End 2006, he was transferred to Hong Kong to join J.P. Morgan’s Executive Committee for Asia Pacific and head the Financial Institutions franchise across the region. In 2008 the Sovereign Wealth Fund sector was set up as joint venture between Investment Banking, Sales and Trading and Asset Management: and Olivier was asked to take the leadership of this initiative as well. He covered both sectors until he left J.P. Morgan in 2012.
