As a sequel to its participation in the ‘Pro Food- Pro Pack 2011’, India is again participating in the forthcoming ‘Pro Food Pro Pack 2012’ as a partner country, being organised from 6-8 July at the BMICH.

The Indian companies are participating under the banner of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), which is an apex body set up under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India for the development and promotion of export of agricultural products including floriculture, fresh fruits and vegetables, processed foods, livestock products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, cereal products, groundnuts, peanuts and walnuts etc.

The special attraction at the Indian Pavilion put up by APEDA in this exhibition will be the display of wines produced by following seven wine companies from India whose samples would be available to prospective buyers from Sri Lanka.

There are about 50 domestic and active wineries in India, mainly located in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa.

The industry has about 30 million litres production capacity.  In a year, about 700,000 cases of wine are sold in India. It is estimated that the wine consumption in India is expected to grow at the rate of 30% in the next 10 years and in the coming years the wine consumption can reach between five million to 10 million cases. India’s wine exports are also growing and currently account for about 20% of the domestic market. The Sri Lankan companies will have the possibility to tie up with Indian wine companies to market Indian wines in Sri Lanka.

Apart from the display of Indian wine at the exhibition, several Indian companies are participating and displaying their products.
