The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) and Sri Lanka Computer Readiness Team (SLCERT) are the event’s local hosts.
The conference is aimed at Government criminal justice officials and brings together over 90 senior Government representatives and industry experts from Australia, Bangladesh, France, Germany, India, Mauritius, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, Tonga, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Speakers from the US Department of Justice, Australian Crime Commission as well as authorities from the UK and Europe will provide expert global perspectives at this important international event. This is the first time the EU and Council of Europe are hosting such an event in South Asia.
Commenting on the importance of the conference, ICTA Director/Legal Advisor, Jayantha Fernando said: “This conference is being held in Colombo as a consequence of Sri Lanka being invited to join the Budapest Convention on cybercrime. It is an important milestone for cybercrime law enforcement and the criminal justice sector.”
The core objectives of the conference will be to discuss the global threat of cybercrime and the cybercrime policies and strategies required to address it. The conference will also aim to improve measures on the collection of criminal justice statistics on cybercrime and electronic evidence. “This will contribute much towards a better understanding of the effectiveness of the criminal justice response to cybercrime,” Fernando said.
