The Iraqi Government has recently ended the contract with the certification firm SGS Lanka Ltd. for issue of certificates of conformity for shipments to the country.
The move by Iraq is due to what it described as the lack of commitment to implement the terms of the contract.
“It (Iraqi Government) will be not accept any certificates of conformity issued by” SGS “in all Iraqi borders, in respect of offering services on ‘Pre-Importation Inspection, Testing & Certification Program of Export Goods to Iraq,’” a notice by the Commercial Section of the Iraq Embassy in Colombo to the trade said.
Industry analysts said the reasons cited by Iraqi Embassy were of concern. It exposes the multinational community of certification firms and the impact on Sri Lanka, they added.
