Janaka quits as EDB Chairman

Janaka Ratnayake has resigned as the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Export Development Board (EDB).



His final day was on Tuesday and had told the staff he was resigning on his own accord due to personal reasons. Ratnayake functioned in the post for nearly three years.Ratnayake, as Chairman of Ceylinco Trillium Residencies, was among witnesses summoned by the Parliamentary Select Committee appointed to probe the charges in connection with the motion to impeach the Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake. First among the 14 charges against the Chief Justice was that she used the power of attorney for two individuals to purchase an apartment at Trillium Residencies cited in SC petitions against Ceylinco companies; getting a Rs. 1.6 million discount and removing a bench of the SC hearing the petition and presiding over the cases herself and the second charge was the payment of Rs. 19.3 million for the purchase of apartment while failing to disclose the manner in which the money was earned prior to the purchase. Chief Justice has denied all of the 14 charges.
