Japan’s Envoy to Sri Lanka yesterday called for greater training of bureaucrats and public servants to strengthen Sri Lanka’s development.
Japan’s Ambassador in Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo speaking at the opening of the Finance Ministry’s new training institute urged the Government to upgrade training and make it more widely available to lift the country’s economic growth.
Pointing out that global growth is now centred on Asia, he insisted that to make use of these opportunities, bureaucrats needs to be better trained.
Recalling the rapid development achieved by Japan after World War II, Hobo credited this largely to the extensive training the Japanese Government gives its public servants.
He also emphasised that they would continue to give chances for international training to its local counterparts through numerous scholarships.
The Ambassador went on to outline the many development partnerships forged with the Sri Lankan Government and his expectation that ties between the two countries would continue to grow.
