Kicking off the Eminent Speaker Series this year, a top lecture on human resources will be delivered by visiting Evans and Peck Principal Peter Achterstraat today in Colombo.
Organised by the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Achterstraat will deliver a lecture titled ‘Steering Through 2014-2020, Must Have Leadership Qualities to Lead Organisational Change’.
The lecture will be held at 4 p.m. at the Miloda-Academy of Financial Study. Achterstraat is the third speaker of the eminent speaker series organised by the Academy. The Eminent Speaker Series is part of the capacity development endeavours spearheaded by the Ministry of Finance and Planning for the benefit of the public and the private sector.
In the invite sent out for the event, Achterstraat has been quoted as saying: “Today’s leaders need different communication skills form those required five years ago. They need different influencing skills because many of their outcomes are reliant on people and organisations that they do not directly control. The ability to work with multiple stakeholders with conflicting and ambiguous agendas is increasingly required.”
Achterstraat has held the position of Chief Commissioner of the State Revenue, New South Wales for seven years after having served the Australian Tax office for 20 years. A major highlight during Peter’s tenure as Auditor-General was developing the Corporate Governance Lighthouse, a model for private and public sector governance, which won the Governance Reporting Award Public Sector at the Australasian Reporting Awards in June 2013.
He is well-recognised as an accomplished leader with vivid experience across strategic planning, risk and change management, having successfully worked with corporations at board level across the public and private sectors.
