Kshenuka first female Foreign Secy.

Kshenuka Seneviratne, who previously held the post of Additional Secretary, has been appointed Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs with effect from yesterday. With her promotion, she will become the first female Foreign Secretary of Sri Lanka. Seneviratne succeeds Karunathilake Amunugama, who retired from the Foreign Service on Thursday (16). Amunugama was a veteran of East Asian foreign policy, having served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in China, Japan and Bangkok. Seneviratne joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1985 and has served as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and as the country’s Permanent Representative in Geneva. She last held the position of Additional Secretary to the UN Division at the Ministry of External Affairs, before her promotion.  (DB)
