Lal Nanayakkara, Anton Godfrey appointed to CSE Board

The Board of Directors of the CSE now comprises Vajira Kulatilaka (Chairman), M.R. Prelis –Elected, Dakshitha Thalgodapitiya - Appointed, Jeewa Niriella – Appointed, Ray Abeywardena – Elected, Asanga Seneviratne – Elected, Aravinda Perera – Elected, Lal Nanayakkara – Appointed and Anton Godfrey – Appointed Lal Nanayakkara and Anton Godfrey have been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) with effect from 20 March 2015. Nanayakkara served as a Board Member of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) from 1998 to 1999. He was elected President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Sri Lanka in 1997 and is the only member of the Institute to serve in the Council for 17 years, which is the longest period ever served by any member of the Iistitute and served in many committees of the Institute. He was inducted to the ‘Hall of Fame’ of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka in 2014. Nanayakkara was a member of the Company Law Advisory Committee (1997-2001). He served as the President of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) during the period 1999-2000 and was the advisor to the same the following year. Nanayakkara was appointed to the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB) Consultative Advisory Group (CAG) of the Internal Federation of Accountants (IFAC) in 2006 to represented SAF and continued to serve on the Committee until 2010. He was also a Member World Trade Organisation (WTO) Committee of South Asian Federation of Accountants on Globalisation of Trade – in services (2000). He was Chairman of the People’s Bank, and simultaneously also functioned as the Chairman of the People’s Merchant Bank, from 2001-2003. He was also a Member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board (1999). Nanayakkara was formerly a visiting lecturer of the University of Kelaniya. He was also a Board Member of the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) (1991-2001), the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) (1992-2002). He was also in the Board of Control Cricket Sri Lanka (2002-2003). In 1981, Nanayakkara was appointed the Chairman of the Committee to report on the Financial Discipline in Public Corporations, Board and Government-owned business undertakings functioning under the Ministry of the Local Government Housing and Construction. Later he was assigned to overseeing the implementation of the proposals made by this Committee. Anton Godfrey is the Chairman and CEO of AGXA an AG International Company. He is the founder and CEO of AGXA-Global which focuses on resources trade, energy, pulp and paper, technology, futures – sugar, global offshore and outsourcing and has a global presence with subsidiaries in Australia, Singapore, India and Sri Lanka, principal network span over Europe and North America. He possesses over two decades of extensive expertise on capital markets derivatives, international trade-futures and FDI initiative with global networking skills. Godfrey holds an MBA from the University of Leicester UK, is a Chartered Marketer and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK and the Australian Institute of Management. An entrepreneur with demonstrated business acumen, he is the recipient of the Outstanding Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award, APEA 2013. Godfrey has also contributed to international trade councils as President including the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and is currently a Board member of the Western Australian Chamber of Commerce and the industry’s panel, focusing on global trade.
